Concept

Vela is a collection of candle holders computed from the same parametric definition in Grasshopper. The design intention of the candle holders is to create different shadows based on the height of the light, the thickness of the pipe structure, and the pattern that the pipe creates from polygon base.

 

Define

Each candle holder is modeled from a continuous pipe over an interpolated curve that runs through points in layered polygons. The thickness of the pipe varies based on the height of the candle holder to create stability in the structure.

Selected Collection

The selected collection consists of one design for each polygon type, making a total of six designs. These were chosen based on holding different sized candles more effectively and potentially cast the most interesting shadows.

Designs

A few of the designs were 3D printed in PLA and ABS to test fit. The final designs will be 3D printed in stainless steel or cast in silver for a higher end option.
